Link Building 101

The goal of every site owner is to either make more sales or drive more traffic to their website.  This can be accomplished in a few ways, however, it is more commonly done by increasing traffic to your site via search engines.  As traffic to your site increases more customers should place orders and you will make more money.  A key to increasing traffic to your site is through link building.

Increase Web Traffic to your Store

To increase web traffic you will have to engage in a link building program.  A good way to get lnks is to get the "Authorities" in your industry to link to you.  The word authority refers to the top sites in your industry that are on topic with the purpose of your website.  This is a great way to get the search engines to realize your topic and keep your pages indexed correctly.
  • Increase Web Traffic by building links
  • Get Links from Authoritative Sources
  • Get listed in Yahoo, Lycos, DMOZ, and Zeal directories

Link building

A reciprocal link is a defined as a link exchange between two web sites.  The purpose of a link exchange is to improve page rank for your site and to target certain phrases and terms that are important for your site.  Building links to your store will not only improve the popularity of your store with the search engines, but it will also get you visitors who click on your reciprocal link.  For a site owner, building links can be thought of as networking.  Just as many business owners attending networking functions and network events, link building will network your site.
  • Exchange with higher traffic sites
  • Exchange with competitors ( whenever possible )
  • Get links relevant in your industry
  • Avoid getting links, just to get links
  • Don't link with just anybody (Once you have a decent page rank)

Targeted Reciprocal Links

When building links you want to find targeted reciprocal link building partners.  Just getting any old link, from any old site, will not do as much for your site as a "targeted link" will do.
